Lay sod in your backyard - cut in irregular pieces and water plentifully-- Andy Bell of Handyman Matters continues his explanation of laying sod by describing how to care for and water it. To patch with a new piece, square off the edges of the hole, set the grass in place and set it in tight. Then cut it along the bottom and pull it apart, roll the joint underneath and tap it into. Get water on the sod in the first 30 minutes and make sure to give it plenty of water over the first two weeks. This time period is critical for watering it appropriately so that the roots will grow and the grass will thrive.
