these are the masters of speed. the good news are that Frenchman Antoine Albeau broke the speed world record with a run at 49.09 Knots (5/3/2008).
"At 12.29 on Wednesday 5 March Antoine hit a big gust and flew down the 1km man made canal. The scoreboard stopped at 49 knots, however after extensive video checking with the observer from the World Speed Sailing Record Council, the speed was verified at 49.09 knots, 0.4 knots faster than the old record set by Finian Maynard in April 2005."

@thedoors120 49 knots is about 90 km/h so he is right. kilometers are international units, only like 2 countries from over 200 countries (1%) has miles in use. So in fact miles are less useful to know than chinese language (1.3 bilion people speak chinese).
