Devon's P.O.V.
July 31st. That was today's date. Why is that important? Well tomorrow is Joe and I's one year anniversary and well, I need to get him something. I really hope he doesn't forget. So what will I get him? I already got him a guitar, so I think I'll get him a pair of sunglasses and a picture of us that was made up of other pictures of us. Oh, and a Barney stuffed animal as a joke. I quickly ordered everything and Sam and Sara agreed to go pick it up for me.
"Are you excited to be in Italy?" Joe asked me. We had just crossed the border into Italy.
"Yes!" I said smiling, I love Italy.
"Do you have plans tomorrow?" Joe asked me.
"I'm stuck on a tour bus, so I don't know, do I?" I asked him. I was a little suspicious of what was going on, we usually do stuff as a group, I don't make plans by myself.
"You do now," Joe said smiling.
"What are they?" I asked curious.
"You'll see," he said still smiling.
"I don't have to get up early right?" I asked because that would not be fun.
"Nope," Joe said. "I have to finish up some stuff for tomorrow," he said and left.
The rest of the day was spent traveling to Rome where we checked into the hotel and ordered room service, which we only ordered desserts, that's the best part right? After eating as much desserts as we could we all went to bed. I woke up at 10:30 and Joe was already up.
"You know what today is right?" Joe asked me when he noticed I was up.
"Of course," I said smiling. Wow, one year, time really does fly.
"Good, because I'm taking you out today," he said.
"I like that," I said. "I have something for you," I added as I pulled out his gifts from my suitcase and Joe opened it.
"We look so cute," Joe said as he saw the picture and I just laughed. He then saw the Barney stuffed animal. "You couldn't resist could you?" he asked.
"Nope," I said laughing. He then saw the sunglasses.
"I love them! Thank you," Joe said. "Now get ready so I can show you what I have planned," he told me smiling. I could tell he was excited to see my reaction.
"Ok, I'm ready," I said fifteen minutes later and we headed out the door.
"First were just going to walk around Rome if thats okay," Joe told me.
"Of course, I love walking around Rome," I said. "Especially with you."
We first went to the Roman Colosseum, which was cool because Ive always read about it in textbooks and now I was here. We saw where Caesar was cremated and where the fourth priest drowned in Angels and Demons, I love that book. We finally went to the Trevi Fountain, which was amazing and of course we threw in a penny.
"I was stupid last time and didn't toss a coin into the fountain," I said. I had always wished I had, but now I did.
"Well, you could throw in another one to make up for it," Joe said laughing. "Ready for the next part of your surprise?" he asked.
"Yup," I said as we got into the car and we drove about a half hour to a beach, which was gorgeous, well I mean it was Italian beach so why wouldn't it be gorgeous. As we got out of the car I saw a picnic set up on the beach.
"This is amazing," I said as we sat down on the blanket that was set up for us.
"Are you hungry?" Joe asked and I nodded. Joe pulled out two grilled cheese sandwiches that were actually still warm.
"Do you have an oven in there?" I asked skeptically.
"Actually there is a heater in there to keep the sandwiches warm," Joe said and we both laughed. While we ate we talked about random and stupid things and joked around.
After we had finished eating I realized that Joe had brought his guitar along with him. Joe played three songs for me: When I'm With You (of course, it was our song), Ace of Spades, and Lovebug, three of my favorite songs. By this point the sun was starting to set. I sat close to Joe with my head on his shoulder as we watched the most beautiful sunset.
"The sunsets almost as beautiful as you," Joe said.
"Stop," I said jokingly hitting his arm and then he gave me a kiss and thats when I realized it. This was exactly like the dream I had at the beginning of the tour.
"This is exactly like the dream I told you about. You planned this as soon as I told you didn't you?" I asked him.
"Maybe," he said smiling. But maybe this time you'll get to see the ending," Joe said as he pulled out a jewelry case and handed it to me.
"Joe, you didn't have to do this," I said.
"Well, I wanted to," he said. "Happy anniversary. Now open it," Joe said eager to see my reaction. I opened the case and saw a pair of the most beautiful earrings I had ever seen.
"I love it Joe," I said smiling and gave him a kiss.
"I'm glad," he said smiling. "Are you ready to go back, you look like you're starting to get cold."
"Yeah," I said as we headed back to the car. "Thanks again, today was the best day ever, and it wasn't even a dream," I said laughing.
