Here's my family celebrating my niece Alishba's 2nd birthday. A day that was made more special because we never thought we'd get to see it. Alishba was born with a rare often fatal condition called Malignant Infantile Osteopetrosis. At the time of diagnosis, she was only 6 months old and we were told that she wouldn't make it through the next year let alone be doing half the things she does in this video.
The only treatment for this condition was a bone marrow transplant and as we were unable to find a perfect bone marrow match, Alishba was transplanted with life saving stem cells from a newborn babies cord blood last year on December 12th 2008. Had it not been for the kind hearted soul who donated her babies cord blood, my niece would not be here with us now.
I would like to thank everyone who supported our appeals and signed up to the bone marrow register and spread the word about becoming life saving donors. Above all, I would like to thank God, who answered each and every one of our prayers, we just didn't know it at the time!
She is the cutest little girl!!!!!
