Together, gardeners and good food advocates pitched in to help give the White House and the Obamas a healthy kitchen garden. Now it's time for gardeners around the world to work together again on a much bigger challenge: feeding a growing population with a rapidly degrading natural resource base and in a rapidly changing global climate. There are currently over 1 billion hungry people in the world and that number is set to rise as the global population rises from 6.7 billion to over 9 billion in 2050. While we don't know yet how we will feed all these new hungry people, we do know one thing for sure: planting more kitchen gardens - behind homes, schools, and in vacant urban lots - will be part of the solution. Kitchen Gardeners International is a 501c3 nonprofit community of 18,000 people from over 100 countries who are growing some of their own food and helping others to do the same. KGI is currently entered in America's Giving Challenge, a contest to see which nonprofit groups can raise the most $10 donations before November 6th. Please support our entry with a $10 donation of your own (or a few) ad help us leverage the $50,000 grand prize which we'll use to help people around the world to become more self-reliant in their own food production.

  • no doubt its a tiny 'round up ready' garden tucked away in the back...

good try though, and great idea

  • Actually, it's not that at all which is what's really amazing about it. It's not certified organic because it's dug on a lawn that's not organic, but they're using organic methods to maintain it.

  • AWESOME!

  • Wonderful video. I do hope viewers are able to transcend political views and see this as a bipartisan effort to improve the quality of life for all of the earth's inhabitants. We are especially proud of Roger's work that grew from Maine and has become truly international.

  • Great video. Nothing to object to about ending world hunger by home-grown effort- and hey, Kryptiea, that's some intelligent commentary there. You're obviously WAY smarter than President Obama. By the way, where does YOUR food come from, and what's in it? You don't know? I didn't think so...

  • just another photo op for odumba
