I don't know anything about northern soul, but I do very well remember listening to this played many times on both Radio Caroline South and Radio London in April 1967. Whilst not doing much on the national chart, it went high on both the Fab 40 and the Caroline Countdown of Sound. A few months later, I found it in the bargain racks at a local record shop (Fuzzeys, la) & snatched it up. I still remember it being 1/6. What a bargain!! I also picked up Daytime Nightime by Simon Dupree & The Big S.

Brilliant Songwriter/Singer - Chris Blackwell (& Spencer Davis/S.Winwood for that matter) owe him EVERYTHING. He single-handedly paid for the breakthrough of the Island label with "Keep on running" and "Somebody help me"! If S/Davis had covered "I feel so bad" (my =favourite record of all time) it would have been 3/3! I consider Jackie to be the greatest ever 'unsung hero'. This track also got a 7" release. It was a similar situation for Robert Knight with the Love Affair covers of his songs.

come back girl!!!
...great info - thank you! I agree with you that Jackie is a great 'unsung hero' and a brilliant writer. It's great when someone like you posts credible info and background info that is relevant to the topic.
