Finally acquired an old-school Disney Channel tape that DOESN'T have inexplicably low audio I'll have to figure out how to fix someday! Woo-hoo! These are from April 1995 and filled the time between "The Muppet Movie" and the music special "Glenn Frey: Strange Weather" - later in the evening, when the channel switched to more grown-up programming (this is still Disney Channel, mind!) and a more sophisticated continuity package.
* Triple Feature Friday - "three films with common themes," all next month!
* "Coming up next" bumper
* "Cool Runnings"
* "Ovation" segment - featuring performance of "Heartache Tonight" from aforementioned Glenn Frey concert. (Is this an apology for the 20-some-odd-minute wait, or what?)
* "The Sound of Julie Andrews" concert special
* "World War II: A Personal Journey," a 4-part special hosted by Glenn Ford
* Disney Channel Magazine's April/May 1995 issue - with the world TV premiere of "Aladdin" on the cover, and the "Ocean Girl" sweepstakes (you will be hearing more about this later).
* "Ocean Girl" sweepstakes - star Marzena Godecki says stay tuned for more details
* "Coming up next" bumper (Not QUITE next ... try "coming up after about 15 more minutes of interstitials")
The next part comprises a 10-minute Discover Magazine segment, so feel free to skip ahead to Part 3 for more promos!
This is the Disney I remember. Not like the shit they put on now. It's incredible to believe that they would actually show history programs on disney back then. Something a lot of kid channels lack these days.
