Our first of many short clips of our "Freedom Tour" of East St. Louis to document the vision of The Hip Hope Project among friends, neighbors, pastors, volunteers and leaders of East St. Louis, Illinois.

The core vision of The Hip Hope Project mirrors East St. Louis Mayor, Alvin Park's "Life and Life More Abundantly" campaign to renew this community - and our world - from the ground up beginning with a restoration of hope in the minds, hearts and souls of people from all walks of life within and without the city, area, nation and the world at large.

The Hip Hope Project is not owned or controlled by any group or corporation. We are simply receiving, sharing and celebrating a divinely providential vision of hope that we believe is manifesting here in East St. Louis in miraculous ways.

As we later discovered, this clip was recorded beginning at 4:28 pm on Friday, May 2, 2008 at "GROUND ZERO" which is where the first shot was fired that killed the first black individual in the most horrific race riot in the history of the united states of America on Monday, July 2, 1917.

  • I've written a documentary that's slated to begin production this March in ESTL. My prayers is that it shines light on the city in it's fullness...the divine and destruction of the city and the beauty of it's people. There are so many self proclaimed intellectuals giving voice to us...it's time WE spoke for ourselves.

I'm so very grateful for everyone who has (in their earnest of pleas) attempted to bring this city and her people to the forefront.

    ...we got it from here

  • i would love to speak with the person behind this project. I was born in ESTL and as a poet , writer and musician, I've traveled the globe and it's disheartening to see the periodical films and books depicting "my city" inaccurately. @spence: you're very correct that we don't need slogans of hope...the city needs action of hope and @Jake: you are absolutely correct in the cause of economic (far before the country' troubles) depression

  • Sorry, you have to go back a little from 1:54

  • I don't know hat this guy is saying because the geniuses that run this world are so worried about somebody important losing a couple bucks on some piece of music. Here's what the real problem is in ESTL & the whole damn country. Take a look at the vid around 1:54 & notice the Yang Ming truck in the background. That says it all! All our jobs & business & money going to China & India courtesy of these fine "American" companies who still want their gov perks & subsidies while they sell us out.

  • Audio is gone..

  • Good cause, but that guy has no idea what he's talking about, and E. Stl is not oppressed, it is economically depressed. And the freedom arch comment just loses all their credibility for me.

  • East St Louis doesn't need silly slogans of hope. It needs what it has lost: JOBS and a middle-class population that reflects America's ethnic diversity. A stroll down Collinsville Ave. would have made a better backdrop for the speaker. Divine Providence left this city in the '60s. The Casino Queen gambling boat makes it a sure bet it won't return.
