I first discovered Schmitt 40+ years ago with the Paray recording of "La Tragedie de Salome." Love this work too... espcially the great organ balance!

beautiful, a true master work, is sad that the people ignore this composer, MY GOD WHAT A BIG ADRENALINE!

@Danzig987 Unfortunately there are no immediate plans to make the performance available. The additional costs for recording and broadcast rights are fairly prohibitive. We will be sure to announce it if anything changes!

@gabrieloni Did this performance happen to be one conducted by Jan-Pascal Tortelier? If so, I think I read the Chandos will be recording this along with Schmitt's "Salome" with the Sao Paulo Orchestra. I wonder what the "filler" item might be? There's another choral work of Schmitt's called "Five Choruses in Twenty Minutes" that is pretty interesting ... I heard a concert recording of it dating back about 25 years with the NDR Symphony (Germany). It would fit perfectly on the Chandos CD.

@PacificChorale Some of us simply cannot travel to the west coast -- even to take in an elusive performance of the Psaume! (I've made it to DC and NYC for other performances.) Will your concert performance be offered as a CD or download? It sure sounds like it was a stunning one.

Gee, I'm so pleased to have come across this guy !
Think he'd go down a storm at the Proms; I've been to 10 this season, mainly Russians & Mahler, and M. Schmitt would not be out of place in their company at all !
Many thanks for introducing me .
The Pacific Chorale performed this mighty work last evening to thunderous applause by an impressed audience. It is quite a workout for the orchestra and chorus

Pacific Chorale in Orange County, California will be performing Psaume XLVII on November 7, 2010. Thank you for making such a great recording of this neglected work available!

And I say thank you for promoting this gorgeous though lesser known work. I am sure that, considering the splendour of this musical monument, its lush orchestration and extremely refined harmonies, you will obtain a deserved standing ovation. Greetings from France !

Yes, this is THE version !
I only managed to hear a concert version of this masterpiece at Radio-france a few years ago. But was rather disappointed by the slow tempis taken by the conductor. This would be a great piece for the Proms... With Gardiner at the baguette... One can dream...

I am quite sure that such a majestic and "excessive" work would receive a standing ovation.
However, in my opinion, Elgar's "Pump and Circumstances" or Holst's Planets are more suited for this kind of event. Schmitt's style and orchestration are quite complex for such a popular event.
