Back in Feb. there was a thread started on HomeBrewTalk labeled "Temp Controller" that had to do with this unit. A lot of us ordered this off Ebay because of the thread and I just got around to wiring it up.

I believe most made use of it as an external control, I decided to hard wire the unit to the freezer.

  • Hey PT. I just picked one of these up. I'm going to be building it in a couple of days! I saw that old thread on HBT and now just realized you already bought one of these. Hows it working out for you?

  • @weirdbeer Hey Fo. It works great and should serve well for those in the northern regions for heating too if they choose to utilize that function. I wouldn't recommend it for someone just trying to save some money over buying a unit ready to plug in. I was looking for something to totally replace the mechanical unit that came with my chest freezer so it was the perfect choice.

  • how much does one 1 stc-1000 cost? is is available anywere on a online-shop? except hongkong ebay sellers?

  • @flaviusicafsz Looks like they're running about $25 these days. If you don't want to deal with an Asian seller, I'm sure you can source a similar unit else where. Panel mount temperature controllers are offered from many manufactures.

  • Looks great! mine does a fantastic job on an old McClary fridge. Ferments at a perfect set temp. The old dial was just too hit and miss. Cheers.

  • @Intoxilyzer5000 You didn't want to share your setup? You told me about your PID controller and thought you would post something. Chest freezers are hard to get a steady temp. Mine will usually drop another degree or two after the compressor kicks off.

  • @yartp I was going to do an overhaul on the old fridge first. Old appliances have great character I think, but it's showing it's age. I have the PID installed and it works great. First Step is sourcing door seals and paint. I should get on this project before the snow flies, and maybe I'll do a before and after deal. I'll let ya know.

  • Lookin good. Wonder if you could take the entire guts out and just mount it naked in the J box with the knock-outs out? Eh, if it seems to get hot, you might want to think about it. Thanks.
