nope. Because the late-19th-century world was incredibly sexist, different rules were created for women to play basketball in their dresses. The most notable rule: NO DRIBBLING. In the rest of the world, the women said "yes, sir" and developed what you now know as netball. In the US, the women said "f you", put on shorts and played basketball with all the men's rules intact.

Wake up, ladies.  Netball is a leftover from the early sexist days of basketball when the creators made up a special set of rules for women. Rules which did not allow dribbling.

If you wanna live in the sexist past then go for it. Women can play netball and basketball if they want. And FYI, netball is a hell of a lot of fun. I don't care where it originated from. Besides, it's not sexist anymore.
