It's obvious the Inoki should be announced the winner of this match by points for the fact that he knocked down Ali twice on the stage.
But Ali was given a draw with Inoki for the match for not even having laid a single punch on Inoki. Because the judge was Gene LeBell, that explains all.
They should have an American as the judge for that match.

Was not the rule of this match made public in the United States? Suplex, pinning techniques, and standing kick were prohibited to Inoki by the ali side. So it was natural that Inoki used only the sliding kick. If a present Mixed Martial Arts rule, Inoki might have been able to win ali easily.

Now this is Boxing vs MMA right here. You have a grappler with a limited striking system (average MMA fighter) vs a top of the line boxer. If Inoki stood up he would have been knocked out. If Ali had been stupid enough to think he could wrestle with an experienced grappler (like many boxers in the early days of UFC) he would have tapped out in moments.
