Easy-going Kanao marries his controlling college sweetheart, Shoko. Shortly afterward, Kanao becomes a courtroom sketch artist, exposed to the crimes of horrific cult extremists, serial killers and child molesters (based on actual, high-profile criminals of the 1990s) while Shoko is devastated by a miscarriage and falls into a depression. Praised by moviegoers and film critics alike, this witty and observant film about the human connection marks a cinematic comeback for acclaimed director Ryosuke Hashiguchi (A Touch of Fever, 1993; Hush!, 2001).

2008, 140 min., 35 mm. Directed by Ryosuke Hashiguchi. With Tae Kimura, Lily Franky and Akira Emoto.

  • i live in the new york area and im looking for an artist to help me draw a sketch of something important. if anyone can help i would be appreciative

  • i love takeshi kitano, but this is fukin gay

  • where can I find a copy of the full movie with English subs?

  • @jysp2005 I am not an art major person, but I believe the movie is way more profound which contains art philosophy. I have no idea what the first 1 hr 59 min the movie is trying to convey. But the last 5 mins inspires me a lot and I cried. This movie is underrated and deserves more credit.

  • @SeanLighting It does. The zeno paradox means you achilles can never catch up the turtle, which apply in the movie, the guy will never reach perfections in contemporary art. Pursuing something superficial and there will never be satisfaction. At the end the wife forgive him while he is at the brink of collapse makes him understand not to pursue his perfection but stay where he at is a luxuary and he already have the best thing in his life.

  • Just finished watching this...

    Absolutely stunning.

  • RY:

This looks so sad. I want to watch this sometime.

  • It seems that were Takeshis' was about the internal conflict between Beat Takeshi and Kitano Takeshi, and Glory to the Filmmaker was about observing his role as a director from both his point of view, his fans' point of view, and his critics point of view, this film will be about Kitano the artist, about his desire and need to be an artist and his failings, strengths, and ultimately his support throughout his life.

An Auto-biography like this can only be described as genius

  • Kitano and Terajima go together so great! I love all their films together.
