All I mean is -just in case- back up your disk. You don't want to hose it by accident and have no back up!

Have you checked your disks for errors? It sounds like your hard drive might be faulty.

:) lol. You'll find that there are a lot of good Scottish people, I'm not the only one! On the whole though, you will find that the Linux community is full of people just wanting to help people out. when u run the ubuntu installer... doesn it automatically start up the partitioner?... or do u have to manually tell it to partition the hard disk?

After you resized Windows, now you have room for Ubuntu.

5) Click on New Partition... -Select Logical -Set New Partition Size in megabytes to 1024 (This assumes 1 gb for swap, you can use more or less but this is a good number to start with) -Set Location for new partition: to End -Set Use as: Swap  -Click Forward.

Repeat #5) but with Use as: Ext3... Mount Point: / Size Should be set

1) Click on Manual Partition

2) Click on the NTFS Partition and click Edi Partition

3) You need to shrink Windows Partition (NTFS) Next to new Partition Size, the current number is the size in megabytes (1gb=102b megabytes). Decide how much space you want (in gb for Ubuntu[at least 9gb+) - take the GB# you want for Ubuntu and multiply it by 1024, then take the # in the partition for Windows and subtract the # you want for ubuntu and enter the result.

4) Click Forward.

hey tux.....how come my UBUNTU 8.10 dont have the guided-resize partition.....it just have there guided-use entire disk and manual partition......

i cant do that swap,ntfs for ubuntu manual partitio....i could lose my data on windows if ive made a mistake...help please....

when i use the partitioner it never works

i give ubuntu 15 gigs and the partitioner says an error occurred and it was probably because the size was too little

plz help me!!
