Pete thanks for your comment. I shouldn't generalize. The Languedoc-Roussillon, the largest wine producing area in the world, producing half of France's wine, with 25,000 wineries, does have some good ones. But, the ones Americans find, cases stacked up at the supermarket for $7.99, with bicycles labels, are not the good ones. I tried Arrogant F; I wanted to use the label for something. It was jug wine, I've had worse; but these posts describing it as the best wine ever, don't have a clue.

You are mostly right in saying that historically the Languedoc has been the bastion of France's jug wines. However you are wrong in suggesting it is too hot and therefore incapable of greatness. Domaine de Gassac (considered by a number of reputable wine critics to bea Laguedoc 'first growth') should convince otherwise.

FACT 4 When Cabernet Sauvignon became popular in the US in the 1980s, the Lanuedoc planted Cab to sell to the Americans. When Merlot became the US fad in the 90s, they planted Merlot. When Syrah/Shiraz became the US fad they planted Syrah. After the stupid movie "Sideways" the US wanted Pinot Noir. So guess what they are growing now? So instead of trying to grow a grape that will grow good in the hot, sun, and sandy soil, the Languedoc continues to make shit to sell to the stupid Americans

FACT THREE It takes a vine 5 years to produce grapes, over 25 years to produce great wine grapes, and 75 to 100 to produce the best.. Most of the "greatest" wine regions have been growing their vines for CENTURIES: Bordeaux, Burgundy, Borolo in Italy, etc. The same vines for Centuries.

FACT TWO Good grapes for wine are not the same as grapes you eat or watermelons. A lot of water and sun make grapes get big and fat and full of water and no flavor. You do NOT want good growing conditions. You want flavor not watered down flavor. The best grapes are grown on rocky hill sides (not the sandy Mediterranean), where the roots take 50 years to reach the richest minerals. In Italy Amorone is made by letting the grapes dry out like raisins, getting rid of water to concentrate taste.

Should I waste my time commenting on this stupid video? You people obviously need to learn a lot about wine so I will help out.
FACT ONE For centuries the Languedoc has been too hot to produce great wines, it was France's jug wine capital. The great wines are made further north but global warming is making things worse. Quantity does not equal quality, in fact ,it is the opposite. Just because McDonalds and Budwiser sell the most does not make them the best.

Yumm mouthwatering ! I am from Burgundy, from a wine village. We tend to make fun of people who talk seriously about wine ("oh, this body, and this fraaagraance of flowers-red fruit-and-cinnamon!") just to pretend they are "connaisseurs". Long live the Wine Ladies !
