Translation of what I was babbling about there:

- In Dutch: 'Flemish is my mother tongue. There's a slight difference between Dutch and Flemish. Dutch sounds more like this.'
- In French: 'I also speak French, because Belgium is bilingual, so we study French in school.'
- In German: 'I speak a tiny bit of German, but not much.'
- In Spanish: 'I speak a tiny bit of Spanish, I studied Spanish for 2 years but I can understand it better than I can speak it.'

French is taught in school here from the age of 12.

I think it's more to do with the fact that we subtitle foreign languages, makes it easier to maintain and expand your language skills, in contrast to Germany where you dub everything into German :)

as a linguist you might enjoy learning Afrikaans from South Africa. it is a mixture of german and dutch and a few others. dit klink ook baie naby aan vlaamse en het ook baie latynse invlode.

@030025 met Vlaams zal ze niet Vlaams dialect maar eerder Belgisch Nederlands bedoelen (hoe benoem je de twee anders?), maar het is wel waar dat ze zeer mooi algemeen Nederlands spreekt!

Nederlands klinkt meer zjo :D geweldig! alhoewel het taaltje dat jij spreekt niet echt onder vlaams maar eerder onder algemeen nederlands valt.
