A network analysis of the conversation of the Edgeryders platform (http://edgeryders.ppa.coe.int) shows that conversation online can scale by becoming more parallel: as new participants join, the community sprouts subcommunities that handle different -- but related -- parts of the conversation. So, a well-run online community can be viewed as a sort of massively parallel computer, whose components are humans.
