Smith and Wesson Model 59, 9mm Auto. Its been a while since I have put up any new vids, so I thought I would do a little clip on field stripping the S&W Mod 59 auto.

  • @MarshalZhukov do you know if you can shoot +P ammo through this? thanks

  • @sasquatch4liffee I wouldn't think there would be a problem with this. I never shot any out of mine, but you might consult google or some forums and see what other people have to say.

  • You don't even know how many rounds your piece has?!? wow..

  • @IceTTom It was used when I bought it. So who knows. It's a very functional firearm though.

  • I am thinking about getting a S&W 5944 but the only thing I'm worried about is that it is DAO. Is there anyway of converting it to DA/SA?

  • @Jrhoney If it's DAO, then there might not be a way. I'm not familiar with that model, so I can't be of much help there.

  • Great video now I know how to fieldstrip mine, thanks

  • Thanks, this helped me take mine apart. Kudos!

  • model 69 must be a weird gun ;D

  • Also, when removing the slide assembly, I lifted the back of the slide up at the back (off the guide rail) before moving it forward. This pulled the barrel off the guide rod, and as the slide was moved forward the spring tension would reduce so the rod didn't fly away.

  • I used to have one of these in the late 70's, I still regret that I had to sell it. The only issue I had with it was the checkered grips which I found uncomfortable after a while (was I maybe gripping too tight? I dunno) but I just shaped a couple of pieces of plywood to fit instead.

A question though - I don't recall having to remove the barrel bushing - did S&W alter the design or is my memory playing tricks?

  • Mens Room FTW!

  • Very nice looking gun. I am thinking of buying one I saw at our local gunshop. Nice video.

  • 14 round mags. my dad used to have one of these. awesome gun
