The Montreal-based Dr Michael Pollak and his team are testing a diabetes drug to reduce the risk of cancer.

Researchers in fact discovered that diabetics who took metformine had a lower incidence of cancer.

Dr Michael Pollak wants to understand how this drug reacts and test whether it can protect non-diabetics in the same way. Metformine would be a powerful prevention tool: this drug is fairly cheap, has few side effects, and seems to reduce the risk of cancer, regardless of the organ involved.
