I'm 18 now (and german) and I have never heard of any school where you take of your shoes, or have an assembly

Americans might wonder just where things went wrong for them. I have worked in Germany and this school does seem very typical (altho I too never saw the shoes off rule. At home, sure, but not in school)
Three things to notice.
Things here are modest and low key.
The school day is actually 8 hours long--work and fun
Walking to school is normal; kids get a little exercise My observation to Americans is: things are better elsewhere. America is not the best place in the world for kids
