@ECWH60RD Although PDs disappeared from Wigan when I was 10, I remember them very well including ex Wigan 57 which retained Wigan Corporation livery. Wigan had more PD2s then PD3s. There were just two batches of PD3s built in 1959 and 1961. I think that all their PD2s were manuals. I reckon that as a child I must have rode on far more PD2s than PD3s as the sound of a preserved pneumocyclic PD3 that I rode on doesn't bring back any memories. Blackpool's synchro PD3s are my all time favourites.
@HORNEBEEDUBLO Thanks for that - Wigan PD3A rattles beautifully and there's also a link to another clip. Although I agree, synchromesh PDs are superior - the Pneumo ones always seemed to vibrate a lot and were sluggish and gutless which I think is why Ribble used them in the flatter parts of their area (Liverpool, Ormskirk etc).
Excellent and clear vid - the subtle difference in the way a preselector PD2 takes up the drive compared to crash or synchromesh. Would love to find a clip of a Pneumocyclic PD3 with rattling centrifugal clutch if there is one anywhere - would bring back a lot of memories of Ribble in the 1960s for me

@ECWH60RD How about this: wwwDOTyoutubeDOTcom/watch?v=iUMjDVRNicY
I am not very keen on Pneumocyclic PDs. I think that the Synchromesh version sounds much better.
