On a typical day, over 400 ships pass through the straits off Dover. This visualisation shows 24 hours worth of shipping recorded as it passes through the Channel

  • what's with the one at 0:01 that appears in the middle of the channel, moves north for a bit then goes away again? or the one at 0:22 that doesn't have a white dot?

  • Yet when I cross the channel I hardly see another vessel.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH. What a tremendously hilarious comment!

  • "No other shipping lane is so busy that it has these 'rules of the road'"

Pardon me, but I think this is utter rubbish to say.

Every ship has to obey the COLREGS (or its derivatives) worldwide and the two bound shipping lane with a separation zone is by no means unique either! (called TSS, Traffic separation scheme, by the way)

I think there was someone not doing enough research or not telling us what he really means!

  • Are you sure these White dots are ships? I thought they were Asylum seekers lol

  • well i spose theyd be useful in brighton

  • wow!

  • 0.21 queer dodging skills!
