Long Beach Firefighter's Annual 9/11 Remembrance

Every year beginning with 2002 I've dedicated the second week in September to "9/11 Remembrance" on TPSradio.

This has included:

Replaying an audio interview with Gary Biggerstaff, the Founder of www.Remember911Ride.com (OC's Cook's Corner, through Seal Beach, destination 257 Bennett Avenue in Long Beach. (90803) - See accompanying video.

I have also replayed the Award-Winning "Ground Zero" NPR radio show from SOUNDWALK.com (this includes actual "last phone calls" to love ones from the plane and towers. It's truly torture to hear that and I always get to the point where I can't talk anymore.

* Remembering a neighborhood swimmer, a real Catholic boy who I played underwater tag with growing up and who, unbeknownst to me, became a V.P. of Cantor-Fitzgerald who lost his life that day really hits HOME. Top that off with a member of Long-Beach-Arts.org (California's oldest art org) who was coming home from that fateful Boston flight. these two "passing" of lives from the world as WE know it, PLUCKED from the earth unexpectedly out of thousands of others.. well it is just mindboggling to me. Why? WHERE?

THIS YEAR

Add a suicide of a friend's ex-girlfriend's brother that I'd see and talk to every Superbowl Sunday who decided to end his life in a car instead of taking a stab at calling a Suicide Prevention Hotline found in any phonebook (Note: the one in my Long Beach, CA phonebook is 1-800-SUICIDE, please get a FREE objective outlook!)

The O N L Y comfort I feel is that ALL OF THESE PEOPLE went to the same place. It's SCIENCE no matter what your beliefs are ;)

SUNDAY 9/13

UPDATE RE: 9/11 The 9/11 gathering outside Gary Biggerstaff's home drew tons of people and about 600 motorcycles (a friend who didn't make it in time heard that number from a Biker, a Vietnam Veteran who stopped along 2nd Street) and I myself witnessed a BEAUTIFUL SUNSET going down third street...
