Gaughan does a pretty good impression of what Jim Connolly must have sounded like: Edinburgh born to Irish parents, a strong sense of Socialism & a loud, booming baritone voice?
James Connolly is here!

Terrific!! There's nobody sings better than Gaughan! Nobody!

@inonthekilltaker1 Hey, we're all Celtic...what does it matter where who was born where? Saor Alba agus Eireann!!!
-
@inonthekilltaker1 Donegalramyie doesnt like anything irish, ur right about him claiming everything here for the crown!
-
Since both Gaughan & Connolly were Scots born, that makes them Scots in my book!
And it was Gaughan's paternal grandparents that came from Co. Mayo, his Da' is a "Weegie" by birth as it happens!
It's his VOICE that makes me think of similarity with Connolly! Those who heard Connolly speak, describe the "booming baritone voice & strong Scots' brogue". That, and his politics of course!

@DonegalRaymie201 The fact that he isn't an Irishman, He is half Scot and half Irish. James Connolly had 2 Irish Parents, Gaughan, only one. Trying to take the crown all for yourself? haha ;-)

So what did I get wrong? (Other than Gaughan was actually Glasgow born, but lived in Leith since about 3!)

Not entirely correct with your facts there, Raymie, boy but I agree with the sentiment all the same.
Is this on a Gaughan album? If so which one? Good for Dick. Glad he's done a version of this. He's a cracking bloke and a great guitarist too!

It was ray Macreavy of the Wolfhound that wrote Connolly Was there.

Dominic Behan wrote the song years before it was recorded by Ray.
