little bear was an orphan, his mama died. I think the big bear was just a grumpy old male he had been following around, that wanted nothing to do with him until this scene.

so? It's a movie, not a documentary. And, I'll have you know, the majority of the nature documentaries use captive animals in most of their shots - it would take way to long just sitting in the woods waiting for wild animals, if you see them at all, to do what you want them to do to make for good filming.
