Icelandic CSU Exchange Student Bjorg Hilmarsdottir Performs at Muscogee Manor

CSU exchange student Bjorg Hilmarsdottir sang Christmas carols to residents of the Muscogee Manor Nursing Home on Wednesday.
Hilmarsdottir, 20,a native of Iceland, came to Columbus State as part of the Georgia Rotary Student Program. The scholarship enables her to study for one year at CSUís Schwob School of Music, but she hopes to continue her education and get a full degree.
When she came to CSU from her hometown of Reykjavik, Icelandís capital, it was her first trip to the U.S.
Her host family and sponsors, Tony and Natalie Wright, have been participating in the Rotary Club program for five years. Each summer, a new student arrives just after the old one leaves. While the host family helps Hilmarsdottir get acquainted with the community, she actually lives in the CSU dorms downtown.
Hilmarsdottir has been singing since the age of 13, and her interest leans more toward classical music than pop, which is what led her to pursue the CSU scholarship.
Her earlier college education in Iceland was in physics and math, but she said sheís ready to pursue a musical career.
ìThis is what I want to do,î she said. ìThis is what I want to do for a living.î
