Amenity Space have just completed Lightwave, a new interactive light sculpture at Brixton Recreation Centre. The sculpture has been
programmed to display the national colours of the 32 teams competing for the 2010 World Cup which are triggered at night by text messages
sent to 0753 478 0083.

Lightwave is fixed to the outside of the Recreation Centre to create a new dynamic facade. Part of the sculpture proudly displays an 8m tall
Brixton sign to the public, creating a sense of place and arrival to this vibrant part of London.

At dusk, the sculpture comes alive and begins to interact with its audience as thousands of multicolour LED lights illuminate the piece, bathing the building in washes of colour influenced by the activities and movement of people within the centre. When the swimming pool is busy, blues and greens splash playfully over the building while, during a 5-a-side football match in the sports hall, white streaks zip across a dynamic multi-coloured background.

The audience can further influence the piece by sending text messages to the building to reflect a mood. Trying to find the elusive summer sun? Text 'yellow' or 'orange' to the building and bathe in the sunlight the building provides! Want to show support for your team in the World Cup? Text the name of your country to the building and it will stand patriotically behind you.

Find the piece outside the Recreation Centre on Brixton Station Road, and communicate, via text message on 0753 478 0083. Text costs vary
depending on the service provider.

The project was designed and developed by Amenity Space, an architectural practice, committed to exploring unique and different ways people can interact with the built environment.
