DEVELOPMENT OF OLUVIL HARBOUR IN FINAL STAGES

Work on another mega development programme in the Eastern Province has reached the final stage. Development of the Oluvil Harbour is nearing an end. It is being developed as a commercial and fisheries harbour. The estimated cost is eight Billion Rupees. Construction work on the buildings, highways and the Ice Plant in the harbour premises has been completed. The depth of the harbour is eight metres. Three ships can be anchored at a time. According to the Harbour Development Project Office, 750 boats can be accommodated at this harbour once the work is completed. 40 hectares has been set aside within the harbour precincts for the launch of industries. It is planned to complete the constructions by May this year.
