Meet the Munchables, the stars of the latest crazy platformer from Namco Bandai. With bright graphics, quirky characters and a sometimes slightly strange sense of humour it's an interesting little title which never quite took off after release.
There's plenty to like about this game, from the unlockable character accessories to those little injections of humour, but we'll see more of that later.
As you can see from the opening cutscenes, the plotline involves in invasion of a peaceful planet called Star Ving by an army of Space Pirates who just happen to look like various food items, much to the delight of the native creatures the Munchables. Lead by their mysterious onion-headed Elder, the Munchables begin a crusade to both save their islands and suppliment their ravenous appetites.
In this first level I'll be playing as Chomper, the first of the three characters available in the game. He's a little slower than his companions, but is equally slightly easier to control across tight platforms.
As this is the first time I've filmed Chomper, I'll be using him without any accessories. As I advance from level to level I'll be changing accessories to change the look of my characters a little and keep things fresh, so watch out for that in later videos.
I'd also better note that this is my SECOND playthrough of the game for the purposes of recording, so the collectible acorns you use to unlock items are abscent from each of the levels. It saves on spoilers, so you'll just have to discover them for yourselves!
Combine Pac-Man with Katamari Damacy, and make it into a 3D platforming game, and you apparently get The Munchables. (The player eats various objects, in this case, aliens that look like foods, much like how Pac-Man eats pellets and ghosts, and grows in size by consuming enough food in a similar way to a Katamari sticking to smaller objects.)

Yeah, it's like a strange mash-up between Pac-Man and The Maw with the boss elements of Pikmin, the strange artistic feel of Katamari and a little dash of Monkey Ball to platforming.
I've found it to be a pretty fun mix.

Those legendary orbs look like poop...
Dang this game looks awesome, but I've never heard of it before, was it not advertised much?

It wasn't advertised at all around here. The first I saw of it was in town at a very low knock-down price. I liked the look of it and decided to watch a few trailers and then picked up a copy when I saw it again the following week. It was only later that I found out that the game had only been out for just under a month.
And as you'll see after the boss fights, I think there's a reason for those orbs looking like poop. :P
