@tecmovie I'm pretty sure Glounthaune is the renamed Cobh Junction. It's where the line splits for Cobh and Midleton. The Youghal line is allegedly going to be relaid in the coming years, although passenger loadings to Midleton aren't exactly eaarth-shattering at the moment!

Hi Des,
Just wondering where you found these videos? and how could i download them, as my father has started a webpage about the families history, and the great grandfather was the station master in killeagh, and great uncle was station master in youghal about the time the video was made...

@debriskw The Station is Dunkettle they had more stations back then. Cork Kent, Tivoli, Dunkettle, Little Island, Cobh Junction (Glounthaune), Carrigtwohill, Midleton, Mogeely, Killeagh, Youghal.

Cobh Junction is the former name for Glounthane station. It was renamed in 1994 as it had not been used as a junction for 6 years.

Ride the CIE while you listen to "On the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe" (LOL!).
This Yank is looking forward to riding out to Sligo from Dublin this weekend!
-
its nice to think that fifty years later you can once again make this journey by train, unlike many thousands of miles of other lines...

I love this movie, but I would have loved it more if it did not have the rail vs. air comparison.

The Dunkettle station was heavily rumoured to have been a victim of an arson attack staged by Cork County Council in the 60's

Amazing how a line which was shut down in 1963 took its last train in 1987 (Youghal) and 1988 (Midleton) Lets hope they have the good sense to extend the line to Youghal t6o its former glory!
I take it the original had no railway sound as 071 noises are dubbed in??

Great video indeed! I wonder, what's the station we see at around 0:50?

I wonder is it Cobh Junction Station? There seems to be water on the right of the train, most of the journey was inland from Cobh Junction onwards.

No, just looked again, Cobh Junction appears a bit later in the film, was there ever a station at Glounthaune?
It depends also on the editing, that station footage might be out of sequence with the actual journey.
