Tick Ignorance

A 'One Show' clip clearly demonstrating the inexcusable degree of ignorant misinformation about Lyme Disease being disseminated by Susan O'Connel and the HPA. I'll leave it up to the Lyme community to comment......

I can't bear to watch this again, the sheer ignorance is just too disgusting. I saw it when it was on telly the first time and put in a complaint to the BBC. Just a shame the rest of the country is more bothered that some ugly bloke pulling out of a dancing programme that doesn't matter.

This is a disgrace and no doubt if the men allowing the tick to feed off him does get lyme disease, because of who!! he spoke of it too , it will be hushed up.

Argh i have just heard her name...the woman should have her mouth taped and her hands tied before she causes more damage..can she, she hass done enough...

how dangerous! Why is it one has to have the tick on for 24hours, surely if it feeds and the saliva contains the borrelia burgdorferi it will just enter. It made it seem like ticks do not carry such a terrible disease... I am suffering from lymes and it is so horrible

I have had my first good laugh of the day. I can not believe how ridiculous this whole set up was. This is so blatantly one sided to err on the side of making the public even more unaware of a national health threat. Love the way he is tramping around the forest with everything untucked. This was a drag alright.

That was just crazy dangerous. Who knows which ticks carry Lyme and co-infections. , It may be less likely to pass on in two hours, but it is not impossible. I agree with all the post. Don't look out for the bullseyes rash. It may never show. Hope you don't get lyme disease. Look for symptoms. Learn what it is, learn what the signs and symptoms are, and don't bother asking that doctor again.

"Chances are it doesn't carry the infection"... How many ticks carry borrelia?

"It wouldn't have time to transmit it" What about if you squeeze them when pulling them out (or by accident), or do the stupid "suffocate it with glue/oil" trick first!?

Dr O'Connell should be ashamed of herself for not researching thoroughly and accepting IDSA blindly. There is no research that says 2 hours couldn't pass on Lyme disease. The only research available says the risk increases beyond 24 hrs so a complete misrepresentation from someone advising our HPA and Government.

It would appear one has to wait with debilitating ill health for years until it becomes life threatening and neurological before HPA would advise to step in and treat with antibiotics.

ALSO watch closely - the tick she SO CALLED removes from him is a totally different tick than he previuosly shows feeding off his arm. ALSO......I would like to see Susan O'connell allow us to let some infected ticks feed off her and then perhaps we would get a TRUE account of what it is to have Lyme Disease and asssociated Co Infections

I think the whole thing was a Susan O'connel/HPA set up,to make the public think Lyme Disease is hard to catch and easy to cure WHICH IS VERY MISGUIDED. If you watch the video closely he says the ticks have been sucking on him for 2 hours WELL unless he gets from Thetford forest to Southamptom where Susan O'connels lab is in a jet then it is impossible to do that journey in 2 hours!!!!
