Transcript:
If for any reason you wish to cancel your Ancestry.com subscription, you can complete several steps, including calling the Ancestry.com customer support. The way we'll discuss here is how to cancel right on the Ancestry.com website. First, ensure that you are logged in to the account you want to cancel. Next, move the mouse over My Account and select Subscription Details. On the right, find the My Account Information box and then the Subscription Options header. Click Cancel Subscription. You will then need to confirm your account by double-checking your username and inputting your password. Then click Continue. This page informs you whether you are eligible for a refund per the Terms and Conditions. Basically, you are only eligible for a refund if you are cancelling an annual subscription within the first seven days. If this is the case or you are cancelling a trial subscription, your membership is immediately discontinued. If you are cancelling a trial, you will not be charged. If you are not eligible for a refund, your subscription will cancel at the end of the subscription period for which you have paid. Choose the reason you are cancelling in the drop down box. This is used for statistical purposes, so don't worry about a specific choice affecting your cancellation. Add any additional details in the box provided, and click Continue. A final confirmation page is given. Click Cancel My Subscription. Remember, until you have received a seven digit cancellation number, your subscription is not completely cancelled. Once you have received the seven digit cancellation number, however, you can rest assured that you have completely cancelled. If you are eligible for a refund, you can expect to see it in a few business days. Otherwise, your subscription will continue through the time period you have paid for, and you will not be billed for a renewal.

  • I had to go through this process three times before my trial subscription was finally cancelled. The first two times, it said there was an error and that I needed to call their 1-800 number. The only reason I tried it two more times (exactly the same way) was, I couldn't fathom that they'd be that unethical.

  • @livebigly Wow! Sounds like a technical issue of some sort. (You're right... they're not that unethical.) I'm glad that you were finally able to resolve it, and I hope this video helped you out.

  • this is a misleading title. The title says "cancel account," yet you speak of canceling your SUBSCRIPTION

  • @martes37 You're right, it is misleading. (That wasn't my intention, however.) To my knowledge, Ancestry.com won't actually delete accounts. You can call them at 1-800-Ancestry to see if their policy has changed about this. If not, you could change all information in your account to be false and delete your trees. This would obscure your account so much that it would be nearly as good as deleted.

  • how can i cancel a free trial?

  • @eaglesdance06 Follow the instructions in the video. They are the same for free trials.

If you don't see a "Cancel Subscription" link as shown in the video, more than likely you don't actually have a paid subscription. On the "My Account Options" page under "Subscription: Current Subscriptions," if it says registered guest, then you actually only signed up for a guest account, and you won't be billed anyway.

I suggest to call 1-800-Ancestry if you are unsure.

  • @bburg41 Great question. There is no fee of any kind to be a registered guest. It's completely free! Just be sure to verify that you really do only have a registered guest account.

See some of my other videos to see how to access free databases. Registered guest accounts are fairly limited with what they can do, but that is one of them. You can also build your tree with a registered guest account. The main thing you can't do is access the primary databases.

  • if ur a a registerd guest, will u have to pay every month?

  • Hi athlete 582!

First, please understand that I am NOT a representative of Ancestry.com. But I'll still try to help you.
