Yes, a charity should do that...and they do all of that and more, through this program and many others. Your criticism is rather unfair.

ok. um. people do actually put in useful things. people do put in shoes, i did in one of mine last year and i know many others. these children live in poverty stricken areas, they have no hope or sense of a real childhood. is the happiness of a child worth nothing? i think happiness is one of the most precious gifts someone can give. it gives the children a chance to experience Christmas like every other child. its a great charity.
god bless

Don't you think that a charity should bring them food or farming materials or something to help their schools or maybe even some actually fun toys? Or maybe they could actually give their children shoes! You know, something that they could actually use?
Instead, they come in there on their high horses and their fancy clothes and give them a shoe box full of....(Oh!! Is it shoes? I'm sooo excited! I haven't had shoes for..) oh, it's just brainwashing material!
This is a poor excuse for a charity!

amen.
Samaritan's Purse has many branches, Operation Christmas Child being just one part. Samaritan's Purse is right now rebuilding houses in Eagle Alaska after the flood. They helped in China after the earthquake, in Indonesia after the Tsunami and lots of other places. I strongly support this program and hope others will join in. Last year Operation Christmas Child collected almost 8 million shoe boxes filled with gifts and sent them around the world. God Bless.

This is just a small part of what Samaritans Purse does. It is the most visible because so many participate, but they are involved with disaster relief, medical missions and so much more.
One of the most important things that a child in desperate conditions can receive is hope. That is what these boxes are filled with. Ive met people that received shoebox gifts when they were kids and that is what they received. Knowing someone loves them helped them through some of the toughest times.
