I built it into a old illuminated panel for checking negative films. It's done with a 555 clock ( http://electro-music.com/forum/phpbb-files/seq_clock_911.jpg ) and a 4017 decade counter ( http://www.getlofi.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/05/random_note_generator.JPG , http://www.midiwall.com/gear/babyseq/ ) as a Sequencer. There are two LEDs connected to the CV Out of the Sequencer. The ultrabright for high frequencies and the normal one for low frequencies. As a tonegenerator I used a cd4093 oscillator ( http://www.getlofi.com/2006/02/4093-based-oscillator.html , http://www.mechatronicart.ch/diymakeaway/?page_id=17 , http://vidiotsquad.com/?page_id=10 ) with a LDR. I also added a low and a highpass filter. It works with two 9V batteries. Right now I'm to lazy to draw a schematic. You can "connect" it with everything that has a LDR, like a Atari Punk Console, WSG, hacked walkman, circuit bent project, whatever...
Here is a similar project: http://vidiotsquad.com/?page_id=48

Sorry for my bad english!

  • awesome !

  • @YARANAYR66 have you checked out handmade electronic music by nicolas collins? it's pretty much a schmitt trigger cookbook (and it covers other things too)

  • Thanks for the links especially. I learned something about Schmitt trigger oscillators. That's the DIY/Public Domain spirit. I hate it when a guy puts up a 15 second video of a box with a bunch of wires, maybe doesn't even turn it on....AND THAT'S IT!

  • excellent....hours of fun..

  • SUPER SICCCCK!

  • great

  • Cool stuff, lots of ideas here to play with!
