£43million just for a bus lane, i'm all for saving history but isn't this going a bit far !!!
-
i am studying structural engineering and am only a high school senior so dismiss what i say i you know better, but from what i have learned, the middle of any structure is always weakest and the top strongest. although trains do go on top, buses should not go in the middle.
-
love the fact that no vehicles over 3T can go over it EXCEPT buses which the council must think weighs a hell of a lot less??
-
If they spent £50million fixing the bridge, why didn't they make it stronger to bare the weight of more traffic?
-
more bullshit councills trying to controll what doesnt really belong to them its a wonder they have not made it a toll bridge ..anyone should be able to use it both ways these councils need to take there heads out of there arses and remember they work for us the puplic which they seem to forget

£50million to repair a bridge, who the hell do they employ to do these things, bet £48million of it was paid to a bunch of beaurocrats. Oh, and UK trucks are 44 ton not 46, ugh.

weak bridge my ass... if a 46 tonne lorry got through then anything can...
Weeak bridge my arse, what about the heavy trains that use it above

Never mind the 44 ton artic, that's lighter than a Malteaser. You have to remember what goes on top of the bridge, 392 ton Intercity 125s. This is also the bridge the freight trains use to cross the Tyne as well and they weigh at bit more than a small moon.
