The crucial thing Im guessing is whether the lights have been programed to react this way soley for this song or does the system intuitively determine, on its own how its going to react to various tracks in a similar way a visualisation would on a pc or mac?

This effect can be achieved manually with a special PC based DMX controller and additional touch hardware.
Automatic sound to light effect is a bit different.You can see a lot of real videos on the Disco-Designer website. Just type Disco Designer on Google and you will find it on the top.
