In the oddly named community of Tiny Township, in Central Ontario, lies the world's most pristine groundwater and the province has just approved placing a garbage dump on top of it.
I lived in Wyebridge for years, and had an artesian well. It was the most delicious, amazing water I have ever tasted. I have lived all over Canada and in a couple of spots in Europe. This is INSANE
I live in this area, and if they put this dump, my drinking water is screwed. I will have to dig my well deeper, and even if I do, I dont know if the water will be drinkable that far down. This is expensive to drill farther, and it may not even be worth it. Fucking government, corrupt out of their minds.
are u serious? u would put a landfill on top of some of the best drinking water? the problem is the contamination of ground water u idiot pressure zones are not going to change the fact of lechates leaking into the water
Yes, I agree...it does not take a science degree to understand that you do not dump waste on pristine water. You do require some logic and common sense, which government does not seem to possess. If the site is changed, only then will I apologize.
I think it is tragic that the province even considered this site. Pristine water is a treasure and should be cherished. I hope the site for the dump is being moved elsewhere. Shame on the government if they don't move the site for the dump.
Moreover, the Professor does not have the appropriate expertise to comment on the suitability of this site. He also has a serious conflict of interest.
When I went to school, water and contaminants it contained went from high pressure zones to low pressure zones. The groundwater is clearly under pressure (which is why it flows at the surface). The leachate in the landfill will not be. The problem here is not so much contamination of the groundwater by the landfill, so much as keeping the groundwater out of the landfill. I can think of far worse sites for landfills.
