They cut it because in one piece could be stolen by a Neo Nazi group and be used again to attack freight ships. Of course with fresh new batteries and some paint.
I can remember the first time seeing U534 almost coming into the main road due to it's incredible length.
I was taking part in the Border League Running event at Wallasey and had no idea there was a Uboat on the dockside so you can imagine the surprise of seeing such an impressive relic of the war.
Cutting it up was sacralidge.
They should have never brought it up off the ocean unless they had a suitable resting place for it and they didn't so they had to cut it up.
I was fortunate enough to have a guided tour around this boat with 3 of my friends.....i truly cannot believe it been cut up.....this is a disgrace and i still cannot believe it.

I understand the objections to cutting up the boat - but I must say it's pretty neat to see the internal mechanics this way...

they should weld her back together and return her to the sea.

i agree. shoulda left her on the bottom, or atleast returned her to the bottom.

Health and safety for what i would have rather seen it left at the bottom of the sea
than cut up like a savaloy.
History destroyed once again.
