Mary I. Benevides
Mary I. (Rezendes) Benevides, better known as Irene, 90, of 19 Chace
St., Fall River, died Monday at Somerset Ridge Center. She was the wife
of the late Luis M. Benevides. Born in Fall River, a daughter of the
late Manuel and Maria (Costa) Rezendes, she lived in Fall River for most
of her life.
Mrs. Benevides worked as a seamstress in the local garment industry for
many years. She was a member of the International Ladies Garment
Workers Union now U.N.I.T.E.
She is survived by two sons, Louis M. Benevides of Shrewsbury, NJ, and
Raymond J. Benevides of Fall River, two grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the
late Arminda Rezendes and Joseph Rezendes.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday at 8 a.m. from the OLIVEIRA
FUNERAL HOME, 215 Columbia St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in
Santo Christo Church. Interment in St. Patricks Cemetery. Calling hours
Wednesday 68 p.m.
