Walt Disney - Ben And Me (1/2) - 1953

Part 1 of 2.

It tells the story of Amos, a poor mouse (voiced by -- who else? -- Sterling Holloway), who is truly responsible for all of Benjamin Franklin's innovations in the 1740s, from the bifocals to the printing press, from the lightning rod to the furnace stove. Their relationship is electric, but rewarding (at least for Franklin). Years later, Amos reunites with Franklin to help America frame the Constitution. Sure, this entirely robs one of the most revered founding fathers of his agency, but it's all in good fun and it's a charming, clever little tale.

Sterling Holloway would have been 107 years old today. He was the best voice actor ever. I do understand why Walt Disney and Woolie Reitherman were such a big fans of him. I am too. I would love to animate a character he did the voice for.

Heh, I just kinda stumbled across this while looking up Ben Franklin stuff, but I think I'll give it a watch.

My class read the book this was based on when I was in 4th grade, and I remember my dad telling me it was also a cartoon, and 1953, he would've been a little kid at the time.
