On August 12, 2009, United Way of New York City and the Human Services Council of NYC hosted a breakfast forum with candidates for New York City Public Advocate. New York City Council Member Bill de Blasio and civil liberties lawyer Norman Siegel responded to a range of questions: from the Public Advocate’s role regarding the provision of human services and ensuring timely payments to community-based nonprofits, to specific improvements they would make to the Office of the Public Advocate and what changes they would seek to the City’s education system. Candidates Eric Gioia and Mark Green were unable to attend. The forum was generously hosted by Mutual of America.
