Sri Meenakshi Temple in Madurai, India

Sri Meenakshi Temple in Madurai is the most beautiful temple I have ever seen in my life. I have travelled a lot and I have seen a lot, but this temple was beyond anything i have ever seen before.

The temple complex is 6 hectares and has 12 very decorative gopurams (towers) ranging from 45-50 meter tall. These towers are decorated with rich carvings of celestial and animal figures. Inside between the statues and finely sculpted columns, you will find a frantic activity of tailors and shops crammed into crevices.

what you say is absolutely true, this must be the most amazing temple complex in the world...when you look at the temples and all of the sculpture it is difficult to imagine how they could have ever done it....did you have any problems with the rickshaw wallahs in Madurai?

i saw a photo of this temple many years ago and to be honest it had gone from my mind completely, anyway, last year whilst in kerala where we have a house [yeah i know, lucky !] i asked my long time indian friend if we could go to madurai, no probs he assured me, after checking in to our hotel there we jumped into the lift to have lunch on the roof, i emerged on to the roof and was stunned to see the temple in this vid. we visited it that afternoon and i have to say that it is the most beautiful

Hi Tina, I agree 100% with your opinion. The most beautiful temples are in Tamil Nadu, because they are built by men. Monkeys built Taj Mahal.

hi Tina next time when you visit our country make it a point to visit the most beautiful temple Thiruvannamalai which is about 3 hours drive from Chennai i assure you that you will not like to live the place
