Windsurfers race alongside the Hawaii Superferry

The Alakai had just left the Kahului port when a low flying helicopter was spotted on the starboard side of the vessel. At first, some thought it was filming for a commercial or maybe some tourists fascinated with the speed and design of the vessel. Moments later four men on windsurf boards appeared out of nowhere. It was quite a sight to see as they raced alongside the Alakai. At one point the helicopter hovered low just above the water, to get a better shot of the windsurfers I suppose. The lead windsurfer threw a shaka as they pulled back and we continued on.

This was taken on Saturday, Nov. 8th, 2008. The video clip is followed after a few still shots.
