Climb aboard for a fantastic journey on the High Trestle Trail! See the sights starting from the trailhead in Ankeny, Iowa to the glorious, 13 story high, half mile long High Trestle Bridge outside of Madrid, Iowa. 22 miles in less than 2 minutes!

Celebrate the grand opening of the High Trestle Trail, Saturday, April 30 in Ankeny for our kickoff event!

A pankcake breakfast will be provided at Ankeny Fire Station #1, 120 NW Ash Drive from 8:00 - 11:00 AM. Proceeds will go toward the purchase of a replacement Thermal Imaging Camera for the Ankeny Fire Department.

At 11:00, there will be a dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony followed by a Kids Bike Ride at 11:30.

Grab your bike and ride the trail in the afternoon. When you return, stop by Leaning Tower of Pizza at 512 SW 3rd St for a free appetizer with a medium pizza!

Event discounts are also available at The Yankee Clipper, 312 SW Maple where there will be $3 domestic pitches of beer and $1.00 off any appetizer.

WE ENCOURAGE ALL RIDERS TO BRING CAMERAS ON THEIR JOURNEY AND ASK THAT THEY SUBMIT THEIR PHOTOS AND VIDEOS TO THE CITY OF ANKENY FACEBOOK PAGE AT http://www.facebook.com/AnkenyIA.

We want to see your trip from your perspective and encourage you to share what you've captured with others!

See you Saturday, April 30!

  • LOL should have done it in summer. The brown does nothing for it.

Never Film Iowa in Fall or Winter, you'll scare everyone off!

  • @MrThunderMonky We filmed in April of last year to help promote the High Trestle Trail kickoff event. We had hoped for a little more green, but Mother Nature wasn't playing along!

  • yakety sax or will not watch. :p

  • Great video! I used to make Super-8 movies like this in my car or truck, but never tried to put the camera on my bicycle, though I did think about it once I discovered rail trails. I'll try to immodestly put one of these Super-8 movies from 1979 as a video response. It's especially relevant since it includes a railroad trestle over the Des Moines River.

  • That's a viaduct!

  • In case you're just interested in the bridge, 1:25 is where the bridge shots start.

  • ....and then on to Woodward!

    Great video! :)

    Great video!

  • Was out on the bridge a few weeks ago and it already looks beautiful. Can't wait for summer though with green trees and warmer weather to enjoy this trail. Thanks for sharing!
