July 30, 1941. Deutsche Wochenschau No. 569. The steady stream of European youth to the war banner against international Bolshevism continues unabated. The first battalion of the Danish volunteer corps Danmark sets out for Germany. These young Danes will fight side by side with German troops and their allies and thus will help destroy the Bolshevik armies. In Spain, amidst a jubilant public demonstration a new volunteer transport departs Madrid. These men belong to the Blue Division (250. Infantry Division), the majority of whom had taken part in the Spanish Civil War. Crown Prince Umberto of Italy reviews additional Italian units sent by Il Duce for the campaign against the Soviets. Everywhere in Germany, the Allied troops are greeted with a heartfelt welcome.

  • - Far more Danes were killed in a Nazi uniform on the Eastern Front during WW2 than in the resistance + in Allied service + civilian casualties + during the invasion 1940 .... Still Denmark was considered as an Allied nation after the war .... pure luck?

  • Let me guess - irony is not your strong side? And btw - no, they fought for Hitler's ideology and his ambition to gain more "Lebensraum" in the East. It is very possible they had other and personal reasons to join this fight, but it doesn't change shit - they fought for the Nazis and for their cause.

  • Yes & no. Germany demanded more because danish people were misbehaving too much.

Werner Best was called to Berlin to explain him self to Hitler, and then things changed.

  • @The357viking Germany appered to be winning the war. In 1943 most of Europe was occupied and the German armies were deep into Russia. Most people actually thought Germany would win. And it had nothing to do with us fighting back - we fought back at that time because they demanded too much, our jews and our navy. After 1943 Germany finaly declared Denmark for enemy territory because of all the sabotages and murder of traitors and German officers.

  • @The357viking Danish resistance fought the Germans more or less and its something I am proud. We managed to save all of our jews and destroy our navy. Everyone feared the Communist so most people signing up for the SS did it to fight the Red and not because they liked Germany or were Nazi.

We also had people in allied service (sailers and soldiers) most noteable Anders Lassen who was a Dane and fought in the SBS and recived the Victoria Cross as the only foreigner in WW2.

  • @Blackie3391

Yes, but only (or mostly) because Germany was about to lose the war.

  • @Blackie3391

    "So yes, we fought"

Not really! We fought with Germany, against Russia. :)

  • Can someone tell me why jews would fund the communist movement?

  • @CapKorzeniowski To combat the Komintern and the Communist states, including the USSR.

  • @IustitiaPax

interesting - what was the deal within this pact?

  • @CapKorzeniowski In 1943 the Kingdom of Denmark (Danish FA Minister Dr. Erik Scavenius) signed the Antikomintern Pact with Finland and the Axis Powers and Spain. Denmark was only militarily occupied.
