The video shows some Jasmine robots building a virtual optical pheromone trail from their hive to a "food" spot. More at http://www.swarmrobot.org

  • I understood the biological part there, but you lost me at the mechanical phermone part. I'm Afraid i don't understand how you can make phermones anything but chemicals and they still be phermones...

    Anyway, overall awsome video!

    How did you build those?

  • You are absolutely right, that those are no real pheromones. But in Swarm-Robotics we use the term pheromones for artificial pheromones like those that I use simulated with light (using a projector). Other artificial pheromones use messages send from one robot to the other.

You can find more about the robots at swarmrobotDOTorg

  • It looks like tictacs smearing light across the black screen.

  • 'pheromones' are particles that allegedly alter the behavior of the creature. In this case optical pheromones are used to alter the behavior of the Jasmine Robots.

What I didn't like was the human intervention.

  • thats cool!

    but alittle weird
