  • first of all, people of Roke weren't white, secondly why the hell would Vetch call Ged by his real name in front of everybody, this goes everything against the story. Who ever made this shit adaptation clearly din't read the books. I am not surprised Le Guin thought this series was rubbish.

  • Here, Sparrowhawk is Ged's real name (so they follow Le Guin's original idea, but exchanged his name for nickname... yea, i know it has no sense...).

As I said, the series sucks as the adaptation of the books, but still is quite nice visually.

  • I totally agree with the princess here. But uttering his real name like that?Americans..they never learn do they? They seriously fucked up the books

  • both Tales of the Earthsea and Gedo Senki (by Miyazaki) sucks as screen vision of the books. i don't really understand why they changed Ged's real name here, it's totally pointless. except some visual details (Ogion for example -> i like how he looks like) watching ToE is pain in the ass for every Le Guin fan.

  • This is so Harry Potter/ Draco Malfoy right here. I remember read this part in the book and how it reminded me of Harry Potter.

  • well, since 'A Wizard of Earthsea' was written much earlier than HP series, it's possible that Rowling was modeling on Le Guin. imho.

  • what the hell's up with all these white american 20-somethings running around like pissy daytime soap opera stars? with GIRLS there? What the hell, sci-fi? First you strip EVERY CHARACTER of their racial identity, then you bastardize the entire naming system, THEN you add VAGINAS to the now almost totally pointless enviornment that at one point was supposed to be Roke. No girls allowed, Sci-fi! no girls allowed!

This is going to give me an aneurysm.

  • ged and jasper went all michael jackson on their skin apparently.

  • @TheWorstWarlock What the hell!? Don't defend this shit! It debased Le Guin's superlative work!

  • @WanderingChild999 He's the son of a blacksmith, so the term applies. They are seen wearing cloaks when they go outside, they're hardly practical attire when inside. And it's "Magus Power", not "Maker's", although that said they pronounce it differently in this movie.

  • Man this book fucking blows.

  • It's "goatherd"! GOATHERD! Not "blacksmith-boy". WTF? Why is everyone white? People were dark in the book, especially Vetch--he was black. Also, everyone donned a robe at the School of Roke, and there weren't ANY girls! And what the fuck is "Maker's Power"? They fucked that whole bit up! Le Guin made the dialogue beteween Ged and Jasper dramitic and eloquent, but most of all flowing:

"I'll match your power, act for act."

    "You challenge me?"

    "I challenge you."

    This just blows!

  • whf is going on with Vetch calling Ged his real name????

  • thick

  • 1, sparrowhawks true name is ged not the other way round

  • FUCKING FAIL MOVIE, it is NOTHING like the book BOOOOO

  • Isn't ged supposed to have dark skin?
