  • This is the film that gave me my fear of dentintry, did for for tooth decay what "Jaws' did for the ocean. Lots of things to like about this film, not the least of which are the considerable charms of Maude Adams and the great un-Oscar-nominated-for-this-on­e work of Conrad Hall. One generally forgets the violence in this film because the suspense so successfully overrides it; I like the way the pieces fit together here.

  • But what amazes me is how well Dustin Hoffman and Roy Scheider behave in any kind of role they have. Dusstin can be Tootsie, a father struggling for his son, and so on. The same goes to Roy
