After a four-day working visit to the United States, President Benigno S. Aquino III arrived in Manila via commercial flight PR 105 and brought the good news that our country has earned the trust and confidence of foreign leaders and investors as a result of good governance.
The President stated that "Good governance is good economics." Due to the improvement of the government system, he said that more businesses and worthwhile programs enter the country which will result to employment, boost in economy and progress of the nation. He said that together with his economic team, he encouraged businessmen in the US to invest in the Philippines. With this, his trip yielded investments from IBM that expressed their intention in expanding the IT business in the country, Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) companies such as Convergys and EXL, member companies of CG/LA Infrastructure and two companies that are interested in the Philippine coconut industry, among others.
He said that these corporations communicate the same message; that they like the progress they see in the Philippines and they want to support the country as it reaches its full potential.
Further, President Aquino expressed his joy that Philippines is one of the 8-country members included in the steering committee of the Open Government Partnership. Other countries include Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, Norway, South Africa, United Kingdom and United States. The Chief Executive mentioned his speaking engagement during the 2011 annual meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund and his meeting with the members of the Filipino community in Washington DC, Virginia and Maryland.
