Dr. Jean-Jacques Hublin of the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology details a recent and curious discovery of a possible genetic integration between Neanderthals and modern humans around 60,000 years ago.

-----

Neandertals were the first fossil hominins discovered and, since then, have been the most studied. However, it is only in the last two decades that entirely new techniques have made new and fascinating insights into their biology and behavior possible.

Beyond their odd anatomy, we are now able to explore the mechanisms of their birth and growth, the way their brains developed, and the chemical signals left in their bones from their diet. The decoding of their genome has opened a new era in paleoanthropology.

Ultimately, understanding the rise and the fall of the Neandertals will help us to elucidate the unrivaled evolutionary success of our own species. - California Academy of Sciences

Jean-Jacques Hublin, Ph.D., is currently a Professor at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig (Germany), where he serves as the Director of the Department of Human Evolution. He has also been an honorary Professor at the University of Leipzig since 2004. Initially his research focused on the origin and evolution of Neanderthals and he has proposed an accretion model for the emergence of the Neandertal lineage that roots it in time in the middle of the middle Pleistocene.

He also worked on the processes associated with the emergence of Homo sapiens and on the interactions between Neanderthals and anatomically modern humans in Europe. He developed the use of medical and virtual imaging in the reconstruction and study of fossil hominids and paid attention to growth and development issues. He has led field operations in North Africa, Spain and France.

In addition to his scientific papers, he has regularly published popular books (with translations in English, Italian, Spanish, and Chinese) and articles on the subjects of Neanderthal and early modern human evolution.

  • Neanderthal burried their Dead !! Early Humans at the Time , Did not burry the Dead ?!! So does that mean Neanderthal was Smarter or more emotional ?

  • @WhiteWeasel420 I am half-german myself... Racism can be applied to any culture or race or ethnicity, but I was referring to the neo-nazis... I think you are right... many people do automatically assign racism to people who are 'white'. Therefore, I was wrong.

  • @yelldagain It did not happen in Europe or Siberia because all of Europe and Siberia was populated by black Africans (Grimaldi man and Cro Magnon) who killed the Neanderthal and Denisova apes

The interbreeding occurred in Central Asia which is the ancestral homeland of the Mongoloid and caucasoid

When you understand that the original Chinese, Japanese and Koreans were NOT mongoloids, but rather were INVADED by this sub-species it will make sense.

Examine the Caucasoid and mongoloid genome

  • @yelldagain Excellent point! I myself have had the same leanings and I have been skeptic of the 2-4% figures.I have always thought that the numbers might be somewhat higher, but for political correctness sake they opted for the 2-4% number.Tainted science is nothing new, The ancient egyptians to this day R portrated as europids, as well as the ancient hebrews, and colombus is still taught as the discoverer of america.

  • I am no expert but this explanation of 2.5% approx Neanderthal Genes in non African pops does not sit well with me. I have no problem with being partially descended from Neanderthals, but if it was a small chance meeting that caused it, then why did the interbreeding not occur in greater numbers when a large pop of Mod humans lived right next to Neanderthals in europe etc. One assumes that if it were possible to interbreed, then this would have been a more likely point for it to happen.

  • @UtopiaMinor666 So Hitler didn't kill White's because he was also White?

    That's absurd LOL

  • @WhiteWeasel420 did you call trotsky a jew killer? He was jewish.

  • The 4% dna in non-Africans conferred some immunity and resistance to some specific pathogenic microorganisms,i.e.it is found in the Human Leucocyte Antigen Complex of non-Africans genome. All the comments with their not too subtle insinuations are null and void.Science always triumphs over prejudice.
